What Five Weeks Without a Bathroom Actually Looks Like
A full remodel runs 3–5 weeks on site; a larger master suite, 5–8. The question every homeowner really asks is which weeks are loud, which are quiet, and when the room becomes usable again. Here is the honest sequence.
Week 1. Demo and discovery
The loudest week. Fixtures, tile and backer come out and the room goes down to studs and subfloor. This is also when surprises appear — soft framing under an old shower pan, undersized supply lines, wiring that predates the current code. We would rather find these in week one than tile over them, and we bring you the photos and the revised number the same day.
Week 2. Rough-in and inspection
Plumbing and electrical get moved and set where the new layout needs them, then the work stops for the inspector. If a permit is involved, this is the pause that no contractor controls — scheduling is the county's, not ours. Quiet week for you, waiting week for us.
Week 3. Waterproofing and tile
Board goes back up, the wet areas get a continuous waterproofing membrane, and tile is set and grouted. This is the week the room stops looking like a construction site and starts looking like a bathroom. It is also the week that determines whether the shower is still dry in fifteen years.
Week 4. Vanity, fixtures and glass
Vanity, countertop, toilet, faucets and lighting go in. Shower glass is measured against the finished tile rather than the plan, which is why it is ordered now and not earlier — and why it is usually the last thing to arrive.
Week 5. Punch list and handover
Caulk, touch-up paint, hardware, final clean. We walk the room with you and write down everything you want changed, however small, before the crew stands down. A remodel is finished when you say it is, not when the last tile goes in.
